In 1994 the Italian Automotive Industry Network (Associazione Nazionale Fra Industrie Automobilistiche, ANFIA) appointed a Quality Systems Specialists Association, the aim of which was to develop the guidelines for the suppliers of the automotive industry – the AVSQ standard.AVSQ

The standard served as the basis for the quality systems of the biggest manufacturers of the Italian industry, such as Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, Fiat and Ferrari. AVSQ allows for the same requirements as the American QS-9000. Although those two standards are coherent, they are not identical. This applies in particular to two areas addressed by AVSQ, that are essential for the Italian industry, i.e. production process stability control and product life cycle, starting from the design stage to the final product stage.

The most important differences compared to QS-9000 include, among others, the following issues: 相比于QS-9000最重要的差异包括，除其他外，以下问题：

suppliers must notify customers about the quality level of products delivered by subcontractors；供应商必须通知客户分包商交付的产品的质量水平；

suppliers are obligated to notify customers about the suggested changes pertaining to their processes and products prior to the changes taking place ；供应商有义务在更改发生之前通知客户有关其过程和产品的建议更改；

suppliers must detail and present to customers the procedures regarding presentation and testing of prototypes and pre-manufacturing samples；供应商必须详细说明并向客户介绍样件和预制样品的演示和测试程序；
