Health & Safety
Komar stands a firm ground to ensure that all employees are exposed to a safe environment in which
worker’s safety is never put in harm’s way. Vendors must be wary of the working area and residential
facilities in an effort to prevent any bodily injuries or accidents from occurring. We encourage factory
management to continuously educate and train employees on safety procedures.
Vendors must post Health & Safety information in a prominent location in the country’s local language
1. Environment of Facility: Monitoring aspects of the environment such as air quality control, ventilation,
temperature and lighting are vital elements in employees’ health and safety.
2. Fire Safety: In hand with the environment of the facility, factories exposed to certain environmental
conditions are also subject to fires that could be fatal. If the appropriate prevention, evacuation, and
extinguishing measures aren’t implemented, factories can run the risk of high fines and potentially
suspended operations. Komar Brands encourages factories to have annual testing, routine auditing, up
to date equipment, adequate alarms and a fire safety system in place. Factories should partner with
their local fire department to renew certifications and train employees in fire safety. Drills should be
routinely conducted and overseen by management.
Emergency Exits- Each factory must take appropriate measures to ensure there are a sufficient
number of emergency exits, unlocked and unobstructed during working hours. In the case of an
emergency, workers must be able to swiftly and safely evacuate. All emergency exits must be
properly lite and visible.
Aisles – Main aisles should always be clearly marked and visible to employees, and most
importantly, clear of obstruction.
Fire Equipment – The factory must provide employees with full accessibility to all fire
extinguishers and all other fire safety equipment. They should be properly trained on how to
operate. They should be in unobstructed view on each floor, either on walls or mounted on the
building structure, with full access at all times. The fire extinguishers should be properly
maintained and serviced.
Fire Alarms – The fire alarms must be fully audible to all employees. An intercom system does
not substitute a fire alarm. Employees should be properly trained in the event the fire alarm is
set up, where to evacuate. The alarm device should be tested in accordance with legal
requirements.
Fire Drills – Routine fire drills must be conducted by management with the local fire
department to ensure employees are familiar with the evacuation and fire extinguishing process
in the case of an emergency.
3. Chemical and Electric Safety: Exposure to hazardous combustible chemicals can lead employees to
suffer from serious illnesses whether through skin contact or inhalation. Electrical equipment, if not
properly maintained, can cause circuit fires. Every factory should maintain a master inventory list of
chemicals arranged in alphabetical order by generic name of the chemical, quantities and location
4. First Aid Requirements: The safety of each employee should be primal focus of every facility, however
withstanding the precautionary measures taken, certain situations are inevitable. First Aid kids should
be accessible to each worker
5. Machine Safety Machines should be equipped with the proper safety device to protect workers against
contact with hazardous parts. Operational safety devices should be inspected and serviced on a regular basis.
