Cleaning, maintenance and sanitation

The standard shall require that premises be kept in an appropriate state of repair and condition to facilitate cleaning and disinfection.Cleaning materials, veterinary medicines and hazardous substances such as agricultural chemicals shall be specifically identifiable and kept

or stored separately in secure storage facilities. Cleaning materials, veterinary medicines and agricultural chemicals shall be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions for their intended purpose.

Cleaning programmes

The standard shall require that cleaning and disinfection programmes be in place. Cleaning and disinfection systems shall be monitored, measured for effectiveness and shall be regularly reviewed and adapted to reflect changing circumstances and disease risk.

Cleaning procedures and methods

The standard shall require that the appropriate cleaning methods and materials be employed. Cleaning procedures will be reflective of the type of production system, its intensity and the animal species.
